How to download HD trailers from Apple

Apple Trailers site has an impressive library of movie trailers, available both in standard and high definition (HD) formats. The problem is that QuickTime is an awful player and watching QuickTime videos inside the browser suck even more.

To improve your viewing experience, you can download the trailers and watch them outside the browser using a decent video player. To do that, you will need my extension Embedded Objects.

Install it and after go to Apple’s site and select the trailer you want to watch. Apple usually makes standard (small, medium and large) and HD (480p, 720p and 1080p) trailers available.

The links are inserted in the web page by some javascript code. You need to actually click in the button for the extension to detect which trailers are present in the web page.

They try to prevent people from downloading their trailers (unless you fork Apple some money for the Pro version of QuickTime) by using a placeholder file that contains the actual address of the movie. My extension can read this kind of file and find the actual trailer file.

Just click in a trailer and a little icon will appear in the bottom of the window (shown above), clicking in it will pop a menu showing the trailers available. All you need to do now is select the movie you want to watch and download it to your computer.
