Well, it took almost 2 months and a complaint, but Embedded Objects 2.0 was finally reviewed.
This version brings 2 fixes:
- Apple Trailers support: Apple keeps trying to block downloading from their site (and I’ll keep trying to stop their games)
- Support to Firefox’s cache: when Firefox loads a page for the first time it caches everything it founds: flash objects, music, video and applets. In previous versions, Embedded Objects would download an item again, now it’ll try to use the cached element instead.
The download is here.

I am having the same as a poster to the Firefox add-on page. When attempting to download large objects (25MB+), you can watch the size of the temp file grow in Firefox’s (3.5.5, Windows XP-SP3) cache, but as soon as the embedded object finishes downloading, the temp file in the cache disappears. After this happens, when you click on the green arrow to save the video, you end up with only a 4K file.
Any idea what might cause this? If there is no easy way to fix it, can you add a button to force re-downloading and save the stream while it is downloading instead of reading it from the cache (I assume this was the earlier behavior).
It’s a great add-on and it works 99% of the time flawlessly.
Cheers,
Tom
Could you point me at one of the sites where you get this problem?
I’m trying to get Embedded Objects, but a hash error appears, suggesting a corrupted file. I’ve tried on two different computers, XP and Linux.
It’s an error on Mozilla server.
too much censoring of possibly negative comment on this blog.
